High Performing Boards: What do they look like? What do they do?
This session will review evidence-based practice on high-performing Association boards to improve organizational performance. What do high performing boards spend time on and how do they structure their valuable time together to advance their cause? How does a high performing board function and how do we promote a culture of candor that advances our work?
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
  • Identify how high-performing boards spend their time
  • Describe how high-performing boards function
  • Describe how a board can promote a culture of candor that will advance its work


Linda Snell, Director of Governance and Leadership Development with LBL Strategies has over 25 years of experience in board governance, leadership development and strategic planning in the nonprofit sector.  She is a  BoardSource Certified Governance Trainer (CGT) and a certified Strategic Planning Professional (SPP).


Linda has developed, implemented and facilitated governance certificate programs and online board governance training which has been successfully implemented with agriculture organizations and 30 nonprofit organizations in the arts, health care, education and social service. She has been instrumental in developing effective performance measurement processes, facilitating strategic planning for nonprofit organizations in addition to designing and implementing tools to increase effectiveness for the board and individual board members.

Linda is a graduate of Texas A&M University with both Animal Science and Agriculture Economics degrees. She has completed the Certificate Business Administration Program, University of Illinois Chicago and the Certificate in Strategic Management, Association for Strategic Planning. She is a member of the BoardSource and Association for Strategic Planning.

She enjoys:

  • Gardening
  • College football (especially Texas A&M and University of Iowa); Texas A&M baseball
  • Excellent food.  Loves to cook and find new restaurants (hole in the walls and new wave/eclectic)
  • Listening to son play his classical guitar
  • Traveling (US or abroad)
  • Watching the sunrise at daybreak on the beach
